Klas Ingesson

1968-2014

Nickname: Klabbe

Date of birth: 20th of August

He grew up in Ödeshög in Sweden. It was also in Ödeshögs IK his career started.

Later Ingesson started to play in IFK Göteborg where he quickly became popular. 31th of May 1989 he made his debut in the swedish national team. 26 minutes into the match on Ejravallen in Örebro he replaced Robert Prytz. His national team debut went exactly as he would have hoped, after seven minutes he made it 1-0. Sweden won the match with 2-0 and Klabbe also scored the second goal. 2 years later his club team career had gone to Mechelen in Belgium.

For the first time Sweden qualified for the European Championship semi finals. They lost to Germany with 2-3 but Ingesson was playing in midfield all the time. If the European cup 1992 was a success so was the next championship, USA WC 1994, a fantastic success story. Sweden came in 3rd place. After his WC- success he moved to Sheffield Wednesday, but he didn't succeed equally well. 1998 he moved to Bari, where he became important for the team. After that he played in Bologna for two years.

His national team career ended in 1998 when he was 30 years old. His playing career ended 2001 when he was playing in Marseille and was on loan to Lecce. He stopped playing football because his oldest son started shool.

In 2009 he was told that he had cancer! :( 5 years later, in 2014 the 30th of October he died.

Ingesson will be missed throughout Sweden and most football countries, especially in Italy and in Belgium where he played most of his years. Now he can play football for the angels and sing; when we dig for gold in the USA.

Rest in peace Klabbe!
